OLD CITIZEN IS CALLED BY DEATH
David Riel[,] aged 78 died at the home of his daughter, Phoebe Ray, at 1016 Williams street, about eight o'clock yesterday morning. Mr. Riel had been a resident of this city for a number of years, and the news of his death was received with sincere regret by his many friends.
Mr. Riel arose from his bed about 7 o'clock and was apparently in the best of health. He was eating breakfast when he collapsed and was taken to a bed where it was found that life was extinct. Dr. W. D. Adairs was summoned and he pronounced heart trouble as the cause of death.
Mr. Riel was a veteran of the Civil War, having served three years in the Union army. Surviving him beside [sic] the daughter, with whom he had made his home, are the following children: Harvey Riel, of Chesterville, W. Va; Samuel Riel, of Washington, W. Va.; and Charles Riel and Mrs. Cora DeLancey, both of this city. Patrolman Riel, of the local police force, was a nephew.
Late last evening, arrangements were made for the funeral service, which will be held at the home of the daughter, where he lived after, which the remains will be taken to the Bethel chapel, Lubeck, for a short service and interment. Grandsons of the deceased will act as pall bearers and all veterans of the civil war are invited to attend the service at the house.
