Texas Obituaries - 1915 - Lila Chenoweth
Mrs. Lila Chenoweth departed this life at eleven o'clock, Tuesday night,
March 23, 1915. The maiden name of the deceased was Delila Elizabeth Sortar
and she was born in Miller County, Missouri, December 4, 1838, so she was 77
years of age. She and five younger brothers and sisters were left orphans
when she was fourteen. However, the children managed to stay together until
they grew up and married. When comparatively young she was married to Mr. G.
W. Chenoweth , and was left a widow thirty years ago. She was the mother of
three sons and two daughters of whom a son and daughter still survive.
January 15, 1887
Mrs. Chenoweth settled in Texas, and after a year or so invested in a farm
in Live Oak community where she had since resided. Here by industry and
management she finished bringing up her two children, giving them as good
advantages as the average child gets. No one was more cheerfully trusted by
the neighboring merchants than she. As to church affiliation she had been a
Methodist since fourteen years of age. She was ever ready to talk about our
al-wise Heavenly Father, and Jesus Christ as the truly begotten son of God.
The near relatives of the deceased are as follows: Mr. Andy Sortar of
Cundiff, Mrs. Martha Graham of Greathouse, Mr. John Chenoweth and Mrs. Belle
Lowe who live in Live Oak Community. The interment took place at the old
Trinity graveyard (Westfork) Rev. Op Nichols conducted the funeral service.
