F. Royal Hammett Dies of Pneumonia
Crew Levick Co. Manager And Active in Business And Socially

After an illness of four days, pneumonia caused the death of F. Royal Hammett, vice-president and general manager of Crew Levick Company, at his home, Wissahickon avenue and Westview street, Germantown, Thursday morning. Mr. Hammett was widely known in this city and was prominent in business and social affairs.

Mr. And Mrs. Hammett, and a few friends were returning from an automobile trip last Saturday, when Mr. Hammett was taken ill. Pneumonia soon developed and in spite of the physicians' efforts it was seen Wednesday night that the case was hopeless.

Mr. Hammett was born in this city in 1884. He was graduated from the Germantown Academy in 1901, and took the law course at University of Pennsylvania, from which he received his degree in 1904. The same year he became connected with Crew Levick Company of which his father, the late Frederick W. Hammett, was one of the founders.

He became vice president and general manager in 1916. He was also president of the Darby, Media and Chester Street Railway Company; vice president of the National Petroleum Mutual Fire Insurance Company and director of the Manufacturers' Casualty Insurance Company.

He was a member of the Union League, Manufacturers' Club, City Club, University Club, Philadelphia Cricket Club, Philadelphia Oil Trade Association and Chamber of Commerce of the United States, Pennsylvania and Philadelphia.

Mr. Hammett is survived by his wife, formerly Miss Clara Robinson, and four children; his mother and his brother William H. Mammett (sic).

He was twenty-six years old.

Corporal Hubbard left Japan last July, where he was in the service of the American Trading Company, to answer the call to the colors and joined the engineer corps in August as a private. A month later he was promoted to corporal and assigned to Camp Humphreys, Va. He was a man of fine physique, but one of the first in camp to succumb to the epidemic.
