JUDGE'S WIDOW IS CITY'S 5TH DEATH
Mrs. Edna Lodwick - Giffen, 74, widow of Niles Municipal Judge W. W. Giffen was
struck by an auto and killed early Wednesday evening as she crossed Robbins
Ave. on the way to a friend's home. Mrs. Giffen is the 5th person to die in highway
accidents in the city this year. Mrs. Giffen was dead on arrival at Trumbull
Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Giffen's husband, Judge Giffen, died December 8, 1958, after presiding
over the Niles Municipal Court for nearly 30 years.
Mrs. Giffen was born in Ohltown, Dec. 20, 1884, the daughter of Jonathan and
Mollie Mentzer-Lodwick. Mrs. Giffen was a member of the First United
Presbyterian Church, a past matron of Ida McKinley Chapter, order of
Eastern Star, and a member of Women's Lyceum and the New Century Club.
She leaves a sister, Mrs. Jack Vesey of Akron and a niece Mrs. E.C. Cailor,
551 Mistletoe, Youngstown.
Funeral services for Mrs. Giffen will be held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the
Reese Funeral Home. Friends may call Friday from 3 to 5 and 5 to 7 p.m.
Burial will be in Union Cemetery. The family requests material gifts be made in
the form of donations to the First U. P. Church.
