Obituaries - NY - 1911 - William Maxwell Reid
|
Reid, William Maxwell, was born in Amsterdam, New York,
June 8, 1839, son of William and Chloe (Smith) Reid, married in
Amsterdam, new York, June 8, 1860, Laura L. McDonald, and died
November 27, 1911. He was educated at the Amsterdam Academy,
and later became engaged in mercantile business, devoting leisure
to local historical research. Mr Reid was the founder and for
seventeen years president of the Amsterdam Board of Trade; trustee
of Children's Home, member of New York State Historical Society,
Montgomery County Historical Society, and corresponding member
of the New York Genealogical and Biographical Society for Montgomery
County, New York.
Mr. Reid was also a member of the Masonic and Fort Johnson
Clubs, and was author of the following books: History of St.
Anne's Church and Queen Anne's Chapel, 1897; The Mohawk Valley,
Its Legends and Its History, 1902; The Terrible Mohawk, 1904;
The Story of Old Fort Johnson, 1906; Lake George and Lake
Champlain, 1910.
