Charles A. Spofford, a well-known Maine lawyer and politician, died yesterday at Deere Isle, ME. He was seventy-seven years of age, and had been a member of the Hancock County bar for more than forty years. He was graduated from Bowdoin College in 1846. He had been a member of the Maine House of Representatives, of which he was Speaker during one term, a State Senator, and County Attorney. He was once defeated as the Democratic candidate for Congress, and was Collector of Customs for the District of Castine during President Cleveland's first Administration. He leaves a wife and two children.
