New York Obituaries - 1864 - Gerardus Post, esq.
The bar of New York has met with a loss in the death of one of its youngest but most promising
members, Gerardus Post, esq., of this city. Mr. Post graduated at Columbia College in the Class of
1862, and immediately entered the law school of the college, from which he received a diploma as Bachelor
of Laws, and the prize medal for superior proficiency in legal acquirements. He was subsequently
admitted to the bar, and commenced the practice of his profession in this city. He died on the outset
of a career of brilliant promise, in the morning of a life devoted to a profession which would have been
honored by his name. His studious nature, his finished scholarship, his high aims and love for his
profession, led those who knew him to look upon him as one destined to occupy an eminent position at the
bar, and deepen their sorrow for his unexpected loss.
