Mrs. Elizabeth Olsen, wife of Hans Olsen, and a long time resident of Monmouth avenue, Leonardo,
died at her home Thursday. She was sixty-nine years old and had been ill for a long time. She is
survived by three sons by a previous marriage, Harry DeWitt, of Iselin; Leon DeWitt of West Brighton,
and Fred DeWitt, of Nutley. Two stepdaughters, Mrs. Amzi Thorne, of Leonardo, and Mrs.
William Polland, of Keyport, also survive.
Funeral services were held Monday morning at 9 o'clock in St. Agnes church where the Rev. John R.
Torney officiated. Interment, under the direction of A. M. Posten & Sons, took place in Mt Olivet
cemetery.
Additional information not in the obituary: Mrs. Olsen is buried in an
unmarked grave in Section No. 17, Plot No. 22 of Mount Olivet Cemetary
in Red Bank, NJ. The obituary is in error in stating that Harry DeWitt
(he went by the name Harry Divitz) was her son. He was a stepson, born
of the marriage of her former husband, Frederich W. DeWitt (who also
went by the name William Divitz) to Delia Rattican, as were the two
stepdaughters, whose given names were Lillian (Sena) and Delia. Delia
Rattican's grave is also at Mt. Olivet cemetary.
Most of this information comes from the 1900 and 1910 federal
census and the social security death index.
