Mary A. Clark
Mrs. Mary (Aumack) Clark, 90, widow of Cornelius VanRiper Clark, died
after a long illness, Saturday, June 11, 1938, at the home of her son, James
VanRiper Clark, 247 Main St., Matawan.
Mrs. Clark was born in the Aumack homestead in Raritan Township the
daughter of Thomas W. and Eleanor (Snyder) Aumack. The house in which Mrs.
Clark was born was partially destroyed by fire on Sept. 28, 1936, being then
well over 200 years old. Later, the remaining structure was torn down.
Mrs. Clark was married to the late Cornelius VanRiper Clark, May 20,
1877, after which they made their home in Hazlet, and where Mrs. Clark lived
until April, 1937, when she went to live with her son, James. On May 20,
1927, Mr. and Mrs. Clark celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. Mr.
Clark died Nov. 8, 1929.
Surviving are 1 daughter, Suella (Mrs. Louis Stultz jr. [sic]) of
Keyport; 4 sons, James, of Matawan; Thomas Russell of River Plaza; Daniel
Aumack, of Keyport; and Leroy, of Hazlet; 1 brother, Thomas W. Aumack, of
Route 36, Raritan Township. There are also 6 grandsons, Louis Leroy, Earl
Clark, Meldon Van Riper, and Frank Vernon Stultz, children of her daughter;
John Harold Stultz, of St. Petersburg, Fla., son of a deceased daughter; and
Daniel Milton Clark, son of Daniel A. Clark; and 3 great-granddaughters,
Diane Louise and Janet Pauline, daughters of Earl C. Stultz, and Joan
Elizabeth, daughter of Meldon Stultz and 1 great-grandson, Russell Allen, son
of John Harold Stultz.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 p. m. from the
Harvey S. Bedle Funeral Home, Broad St., Keyport, with the Rev. Garrett S.
Detwiler, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Matawan, officiating. Mrs.
Clark was a member of the First Baptist Church of Keyport for the past 75
years.
Interment was made in the family plot in Green Grove Cemetery , Keyport.
Bearers were J. Grover Curtis, Frank W. Sproul, George Thorne, Harry
Cowles, Thomas Rathbone and Frank Applegate.
