Sarah Margaret Smith of Eatontown, the eccentric woman of wealth who died about a month ago, made
her will May 16th, 1899. The witnesses were Enoch L. Cowart, John S. Bainton and James S.
Throckmorton, Jr. Mrs. Smith is reputed to have been worth nearly a million dollars. Some
time before her death she deeded very valuable real estate in New York City said to be worth
nearly half a million dollars, to William Allan Bryan, who had been her companion and friend
for many years. Her will leaves him her entire remaining estate, which is said to be worth,
after deducting the gift of real estate, nearly $300,000. The will was probated at Freehold
last week. Mrs. Smith was 82 years old, and it is expected that some of her heirs will undertake
to break the will.
