Obituaries - NJ - 1902 - Mrs. Hannah Lambert (Holmes) Borden

Mrs. Hannah Lambert Borden of Shrewsbury, widow of Francis Borden died on Friday. She was 85 years old on November 18th. She had been in her usual health until five o'clock on the day of her death when she burst a blood vessel in her brain. This caused paralysis and she died three hours later.
Mrs. Borden was the daughter of Jerusha and Abram Holmes and was born at the old Holmes homestead at Shrewsbury. Her husband died in 1881. Mrs. Borden joined the Shrewsbury Presbyterian church on July 19th, 1832. She was the oldest member of the church in length of membership. She attended communion at the church on Sunday, December 1st. Mrs. Borden was a true and helpful friend, she had a gentle and loving disposition and her death will be felt as a personal loss by many outside of the family circle.
Mrs. Borden is survived by nine children, all of whom live at Shrewsbury. They are Misses Jerusha, Maggie, Olivia and Anna W. Borden, William Lambert, Randolph, Francis, Ashbel W. and A. Holmes Borden. The funeral was held at her late residence on Monday afternoon, with a subsequent service at the Shrewsbury Presbyterian church. Rev. Samuel C. Price officiated and he was assisted by Rev. Albert D. Baldwin of Shrewsbury. The body was buried in the Presbyterian burying ground. The bearers were Rulief F. Hopper, John R. Sickles, Charles H. Hurley, Benjamin J. Parker, John E. Davis and Jacob C. Shutts.
