DEATH OF ALBERT BRANDT, SR.
Well Known Man in Local Business Circles Passes Away
Albert Brandt, Sr., who, since 1869, has been a prominent figure in the local business world, died
Saturday (12 April 1902) afternoon at St. Francis Hospital (Trenton, NJ), after an illness of more than a year.
He was removed to the hospital six weeks ago, and an operation for bladder trouble performed to prolong his life.
Mr. Brandt was born in Rostock, Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Germany, October 29, 1829, and was of an old German family.
At the age of 19 years he came to this country, and, after a varied business career in the east, settled in Trenton.
For a number of years Captain Brandt engaged in the saloon business here, and until a few years ago was proprietor of “The Exchange,” the place now owned by George Hildebrecht.
Mr. Brandt was a Mason, and a member of the Liedertafel Singing Society. His wife died in 1881. Albert Brandt, of this city, and William C. Brandt, of New York, are the only surviving children.
The funeral, which will be private, will be held tomorrow afternoon from the home of Albert Brandt, Jr., 31 Southard Street. The body was viewed today from 9 until 2 o'clock. Interment will be made at Riverview Cemetery, under the direction of E. R. Taylor.
