Obituaries - NJ - 1901 - George Atkinson

George Atkinson of Shrewsbury avenue died on Monday of cancer of the stomach. He was 56 years old.
The funeral will be held to-morrow afternoon at the house and the body will be buried at Little Silver.
Mr. Atkinson was born in London, England. When he was seventeen years old he went to Australia as a
sailor. He spent nine years there at the gold diggings and on ranches. He went back to London and
after staying there a year he went to New York, where he engaged in the furnishing business. Ten
years ago he settled at Red Bank and went in partnership with John McColgan in the grocery business.
His wife was Miss Elizabeth White of Little Silver. She survives him and he also leaves two daughters,
Jennie and Anna.
