Obituaries - NJ - 1901 - William Clayton

William Clayton of Oceanport died of paralysis on Tuesday of last week, aged 72 years. He was a native of Burrsville,
in Ocean county. When a young man he learned the carpenter trade at Freehold and he afterward engaged in the building
business at New York. He sold out his business at New York and invested in land in Iowa. At one time he owned as much
as 800 acres. Later he disposed of his western land and invested his money at Oceanport. He was interested in coasting
and river vessels for a good many years. He married Miss Caroline Sherwood of Hastings, New York. She and a son, William
E. Clayton, who is in business at Oceanport, survive him.
