A Keyport Woman Found Dead
Mary M. Holmes, a Keyport colored woman, was found dead last week on the floor of Thomas Jones's house, where she made her
home when out of work. She had been working at the Pavilion hotel at Keyport but had gone to Jones's on account of sickness.
Mr. Jones had been away all night and when he went home in the morning he found the door locked. He knocked but got no
response and looking in the window he saw the dead body of the woman on the floor. Death was due to heart disease. Coroner
Tetley of Red Bank was notified but as the woman had died from natural causes he gave a burial permit without holding an
inquest. The woman was about 45 years old.
