Obituaries - NJ - 1901 - John Edwards

John Edwards, who was generally known as "Captain Jack" Edwards died on Tuesday of last week of paralysis. He was born at Oceanport and had followed the water all his life. For 21 years he was the captain of the life saving crew at Sandy Hook. In his early manhood he owned and sailed a fishing smack and had headquarters at Fulton market, New York. He was married three times and leaves a widow. He leaves also seven children. The children are Charles, James, George and John Edwards, Mrs. Thomas Proctor and Mrs. Arthur Hurley of Long Branch, and Miss Kate Edwards of Trenton. Mr. Edwards made the arrangements for his funeral bout three years ago, and these arrangements were carried out just as he had planned them. He was 64 years old.
