Obituaries - NJ - 1901 - John D. Wallace
John D. Wallace of Middletown died last Thursday of pneumonia in his 39th year, after a sickness of ten days. The funeral was held on Sunday at the Red Hill Methodist church near Middletown and was conducted by Rev. Calvin Heath. The Rising Star society of which Mr. Wallace was treasurer attended the funeral in a body. The burial was at Red Hill cemetery.
Mr. Wallace was born in North Carolina. When he was nineteen years old he went to Georgia to work on a turpentine farm. A year later he moved to Newberns, N. C., where he was employed in the fire department. Fourteen years ago he moved to Middletown, and in 1888 Miss Isabella Bones of Newberne came North to be his wife. He bought a five acre farm near Middletown in 1895 , and had lived on it ever since. His wife and three children, Mary, George and Edward, survive him. He leaves also a sister in Connecticut and a brother and a sister in the South. Mr. Wallace was a member of the Red Hill Methodist church and has held several official positions in the church.
