New Jersey Obituaries - 1900 - Clarkson Smith
Clarkson Smith, a former resident of Freehold, died on Monday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. A. C. Cottrell of Oceanic. He was 72 years old and had been in poor health for a long time. Six weeks ago he took to his bed and did not get out again. The funeral was held to-day at ten o’clock at the house. The sermon was preached by Rev. S. W. Knipe. The body was taken to Freehold where another service was held at the Presbyterian church at one o’clock. The body was buried at Freehold.
Mr. Smith was born at Old Bridge. About seventeen years ago he moved to Freehold, where he lived until the death of his wife, which occurred three years ago. Since then he had made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Cottrell. Three children survive him. They are Mrs. John Sheppard of Freehold, Mrs. A. C. Cottrell of Oceanic, and Nelson Smith of Chicago.
