Drowned In A Lake

Russel White Supposed to Have Fallen From His Boat

Russel White of Neptune township, whose home is just across Deal lake from Asbury Park was drowned while rowing across the lake on Thursday night. He started from home early in the evening, his destination taking him across the lake. He had not yet returned when the family retired for the night, but it was not then late and nothing was thought of the matter. When midnight came and he had not yet arrived home his son started to search for him. The shore of the lake was searched and about four hundred yards from his home his dead body was found. The lower part of his body was in the boat, but his head was leaning over the boat and was submerged in water. It is supposed that he had been stricken with apoplexy as he reached the shore on the return trip.

Mr. White was 54 years old and was a waterman by occupation. He had worked all day the day of his death and when he came home at night he complained considerably of the heat. Mr. White was born and had always lived in the vicinity of Deal lake.
