An Old Tollgate Keeper Dead
Lewis VanCleaf (Van Cleaf), who had been tollgate keeper on the road between Blue Ball and Turkey for the past fifty years, died last Wednesday of general debility,
aged 89 years. The breaking down of his health came very suddenly, he having been very active up to a week before his death. Mr. VanCleaf was born at
West Freehold. He married Ann Reeves in 1837. She died in 1885. Five children were the result of their union, all of whom are living. They are Judge
Aaron R. VanCleaf of Circleville, Ohio, editor of a paper at that place; John VanCleaf of Ocean Grove, Mrs. Elizabeth Farrell, who lives at home; and Mrs.
Jane A. Conklin and William VanCleaf of Staten Island.
