Elias H. Force of Keyport, died on Monday of last week, aged 73 years. He was the last member of his family. About three years ago Mr. Force was stricken with paralysis and he never fully recovered from this attack. A year ago he was operated on at the Long Branch hospital for the removal of a cancer from his lip. Other cancers appeared, however, and these caused his death.
Mr. Force was born at New York. He went to Keyport when he was seventeen years old and spent the remainder of his life there. In 1850 he married Miss Gertrude Emmons of Marlboro. Mr. Force was among the first to engage in the oyster business at Keyport, and he kept at this business for thirty years. He later established a stove and hardware business now conducted by his son and son-in-law. Mr. Force's brother, William Force, died on the same date as his brother, just nine years ago.
Besides a widow, Mr. Force leaves a daughter and a son, Mrs. John T. Wyckoff and Peter M. Force. The funeral was held on Wednesday, the sermon being preached by Rev. R. L. Woodward, pastor of St. Mary's Episcopal church of Keyport. The body was buried in Green Grove cemetery at Keyport.
