New Jersey Obituaries - 1899 - David C. Mealio

David C. Mealio, who moved from New York to Matawan in 1863, and who had lived at Matawan ever since then, died on Saturday, March 11th, aged 68 years. He was a deputy sheriff in New York prior to this removal to Matawan. In 1868 he started a grocery store at Matawan which he conducted for several years. For the past eleven years he had been employed by the New York and Long Branch railroad, having been station agent at Cliffwood for eight years and at Hazlet for three years. He had been assessor and constable of Matawan township and had also held other offices.

Mr. Mealio had been sick about three months and death was caused by paralysis. He leaves a widow and two daughters, the latter being Mrs. Jerry MacDonald and Mrs. J. T. Clowes.
