New Jersey Obituaries - 1899 - John M. Laight

John M. Laight of Asbury Park died last Wednesday of heart disease. He had gone to work as usual that morning but he did not feel well and he returned home. He was sitting in a chair on the piazza when he suddenly fell back dead.

Mr. Laight was 64 years old. He was a Democrat in politics and was a Mason and Knight Templar. He was twice married. His second wife and three children by his first wife survive him.

Mr. Laight went to Asbury Park in the early days of that town and got employment in a wood working mill. In 1888 he started in business for himself. He put in a small plant and for the first year he was his own engineer, mechanic, office clerk and errand boy. The business increased, and at the time of his death he employed over a score of men.
