New Jersey Obituaries - 1899 - Captain Thomas Murray

Captain Thomas Murray of Atlantic Highlands died last Wednesday of general debility, aged 89 years. He was born near Edinburg, Scotland, and came to this country when ten years old. He went to sea soon afterward and followed that vocation until about fourteen years ago, when he moved to Atlantic Highlands. He was captain of the pilot boat Washington for 44 years.

In 1870 he married Mrs. Charlotte Morrell. She died about ten years ago. Since that time Mrs. A. E. Bennett has kept house for him. He leaves one daughter, Mrs. Barbary Conlin of Ozone Park, Long Island. William Morrell of Atlantic Highlands is his step-son. The funeral was held on Friday night at his late residence. Rev. Samuel Sargent had charge of the service. The body was buried in Evergreen cemetery at Brooklyn.
