New Jersey Obituaries - 1899 - Charles Doughty, Sr.
Charles Doughty, Sr., died at Fair Haven on Monday of congestion of the liver. He was 83 year old and had been
sick about two weeks. He was born at the Highlands and when a young man he married Miss Catherine Woolley,
daughter of Nathan Woolley of Long Branch. After his marriage he moved to Fair Haven where he had since
resided. He was a riverman and had followed this occupation all his life. About thirty years ago his wife
died, and ten years later he married Miss Sarah Simmons, of New York. She died about seven years ago. Eleven
children survive him. The surviving children are Miss Maria Doughty, Mrs. Charles Parker, Mrs. E. A. Worthley,
Mrs Thomas B. Minton, Benjamin, Charles, John and Robert Doughty of Fair Haven, William and Joseph Doughty of
New York, and Nathan Doughty of Cape May. The funeral will be held to-morrow at one o'clock from the house
and at half-past one o'clock from the Fair Haven Methodist church. The burial will be at Rumson.
