New Jersey Obituaries - September 21, 1898 - Joseph W. Ewing

Joseph W. Ewing of New York died at Chickamauga Park on Wednesday, September 7th, aged 19 years. He was a corporal in Company B, Ninth New York volunteers, and was sent to Chickamauga. He contracted typhoid fever, and not being properly cared for in the government camp, died from the effects of the disease. Mr. Ewing was the son of Mrs. Nelson B. Ewing of New York, formerly Miss Phoebe Lewis of Fairfield, in Howell township. His body was sent to Fairfield and the funeral was held there. Mr. Ewing's great-grandfather was a soldier in the Revolution. Nelson B. Ewing, father of Joseph E. Ewing, fought in the civil war.

Per the Death Notice Mr. Ewing was aged 19 years and 8 months.
