New Jersey Obituaries - November 30, 1898 - James E. Johnston

James E. Johnston died at Farmingdale on Saturday, November 19th, aged 67 years. He caught a heavy cold about a week before his death and was compelled to take to his bed. On Monday and Tuesday of last week he was able to be about the house, but on Wednesday he was taken with pneumonia. Mr. Johnston was the son of the late James E. Johnston and was born at West Farms, in Howell township. He learned the carpenter trade when quite young and in 1862 he commenced business for himself at Farmingdale. For several years afterward he bought and sold real estate in different places. In early life Mr. Johnston married Miss Elizabeth Corlies, daughter of Richard Corlies. She died about five years ago. Three children survive him. They are Aaron E. Johnston of Freehold, Mrs. Mary P. Donahay of New York and Miss Sadie A. Johnston of Farmingdale.
