New Jersey Obituaries - June 1, 1898 - Edward Houston

Edward Houston of Seaside died of the grip on Wednesday, May 18th, aged 58 years. Mr. Houston had lived at Seaside about eight years. Before moving to that place he had been engaged in the popcorn business in New York. He was the first person to discover the secret of making popcorn into balls without making them sticky. Mr. Houston made a fortune of $40,000 at this last business. He owned considerable property at Seaside and the Highlands. He was one of the organizers of the Seaside fire department and held the office of treasurer and trustee at the time of his death. He leaves a widow and six children. Two of the children are married.
