New Jersey Obituaries - June 1, 1898 - Mrs. Catharine M. Barnes

Mrs. Catharine M. Barnes, widow of Edward P. Barnes, died at Keyport last Wednesday afternoon. She was 91 years old and was the oldest resident of Keyport. Her husband died thirty years ago in the same house where Mrs. Barnes died. She retained her faculties to a remarkable degree, but she had been ailing for the past three months, and on the Sunday before her death she was stricken with paralysis.

Mrs. Barnes had lived at Keyport for 53 years. She was a charter member of the Keyport Reformed church, which celebrated its fiftieth anniversary last year; but she had become a member of that denomination while she was living on Staten island, and before her removal to Keyport. She leaves six children, seventeen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The children are Abram D., John E. and Joseph E. Barnes, Mrs. Hannah J. Simmons, Mrs. Ella C. Nichols and Mrs. Leonora Z. Davis.

Per the Death Notice Mrs. Barnes was aged 91 years, 2 months and 15 days.
