New Jersey Obituaries - July 27, 1898 - John F. R. Brown

John F. R. Brown, proprietor of the old Pleasure Bay house at Pleasure Bay, died last Friday morning, aged 80 years. He had been in poor health for several months. Mr. Brown was born at Sing Sing, New York, but nearly half of his life had been spent in Ocean township, and for 35 years he had been a hotel proprietor. In 1871 he moved to the hotel at Pleasure Bay, which he conducted until his death. Mr. Brown was married twice. His first wife was Mary Elizabeth Maynard. She died in 1892 and a year later Mr. Brown married Miss Laura Wood of New York, who survives him. The funeral was held from his late home on Sunday and the burial was at Tarrytown, New York.
