New Jersey News - January 26, 1898 - A Stove Blown to Pieces
|
A Stove Blown to Pieces
At a recent auction sale of the household goods of Jerry Donovan, who lives near Imlaystown, a fire was started in an old stove which stood in the yard. Asher Borden was about to put some dry wood in the fire when the stove was blown to atoms. The pieces of the stove flew in an upward direction and no one was seriously hurt, but Borden, Harry Matthews and a boy named Danser were somewhat scorched. It was afterward learned that several years ago Donovan had put some blasting powder in the stove for safe keeping.
