New Jersey Obituaries - January 12, 1898 - Mrs. Ann (West) Price

Mrs. Ann Price, wife of E. Hartshorne Price of Pleasure Bay, died on Monday morning at ten o'clock. Her death was caused by stomach trouble. She was first taken sick last Thursday, but recovered sufficiently to go down stairs the next day. That night her condition became worse, but it was not until Sunday that she was thought to be seriously sick.

Mrs. Price was the daughter of Eliza and Elisha West of Long Branch. She was born at what is now known as VanWoert's hotel, which was conducted by her parents for many years. She was married to E. Hartshorne Price about 45 years ago. For a short time after their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Price lived at Oceanport. About forty years ago they bought the hotel building at Pleasure Bay, which they have since conducted and which has been known as Price's hotel.

Mrs. Price was 65 years old. She celebrated her birthday New Year's eve and at that time was in excellent health. Besides her husband she leaves six children, all of whom live at home. The children are Elisha, John, William, Melissa, Lida and Frazer Price. She also leaves three sisters and one brother, one of her sisters being Mrs. Smith Pitcher of Long Branch.

Mrs. Price was a wonderfully hospitable and charitable woman. She was a member of the Eastern Star of Long Branch. The funeral will be held to-morrow afternoon at two o'clock from her late home. The service will be conducted by Rev. H. H. P. Roche.
