New Jersey Obituaries - August 24, 1898 - William FolanWilliam Folan Drowned
The Keyport Red Men had their excursion to Coney Island last Wednesday. Among those to go were
William Folan, son of Thomas Folan, who keeps a saloon at the Keyport car stables; John Aschenbach
and Joseph Campbell of Keyport. The trio went in swimming and Folan got caught in the undertow,
which was very strong. He was out beyond the life lines at the time and two lifeguards who were
stationed on the bathing grounds went after him. He was brought ashore unconscious. For half an
hour efforts were made to revive him, but at the end of that time he was pronounced dead. He was
32 years old.
