New Jersey Obituaries - June 23, 1897 - Mrs. Lydia Ann (VanCleve) Clayton

Mrs. Lydia Ann Clayton died at West Freehold on Friday, June 11th, aged 84 years. She was the
widow of Lemuel C. Clayton and was the daughter of Benjamin VanCleve. She was born in 1813 on the farm on
which she died. Her grandfather and her great-grandfather also owned and occupied the same farm, and Mrs.
Clayton's brother, Benjamin VanCleve, was the fourth member of the family in the line of descent who
followed the trade of blacksmith on the farm. The great-grandfather forged some of the irons which were
used in building Old Tennent church. Mrs. Clayton left two daughters, Mrs. John R. Anderson, who lived
with her mother, and Mrs. William Brower, who lives near Long Branch.
