Last Wednesday Silas Tilton, of Keyport, died in his 84th year. He was sick for only one day, though for a year or more his constitution had been gradually breaking down. Mr. Tilton was born in Middletown township, and was one of the seven sons of Jonathan Tilton. Of these only one is now living - Asher Tilton, of Keyport. Silas Tilton was married about fifty years ago to Miss Eusebia Tilton, and from this union sprang five children, of whom only two survive. One of these is Theodore Tilton, the noted lecturer, and at one time editor of the New York Independent, who now resides in Paris, France; and the other Mrs. J. W. Leslie, of Keyport. When a young man Mr. Tilton went to Keyport, and for many years, conducted a flourishing shoe business. About thirty years ago he sold out his business and moved to the vicinity of Leonardville, where he bought a farm. Later he moved to Keyport, living there until his death. The funeral was held last Friday, and the body was buried in Fair View cemetery.

Death notice lists his age as 83 years and 5 months.
