Obits - NJ - Monmouth - Thomas F. Morford |
Thomas F. Morford died on Monday night half-past twelve o'clock from
the effects of the accident by which his arm was torn off a week previously.
The wounded arm was apparently healing, and the death was caused by shock and
nervous exhaustion. He was in great and constant pain from the time of the
accident until his death, and although in an unconscious condition the greater
part of Monday, his constant moans showed how acute must have been his
agony. These moanings continued up to within ten minutes of his death. Mr.
Morford was attended by Drs. Betts, Warner and Field. All hope of Mr. Morford's
recovery was abandoned by the physicians on Monday. He was attended by a trained
nurse from the Chambers street hospital, New York city.
Mr. Morford was 55 years of age and leaves a widow and four children. His
is the first death which has occurred in the family circle of his home. His children
are Mrs. Laura Wikoff, Miss Jennie Morford, Miss Katie Morford, and Harry
Morford. The last named is about 22 years of age. The funeral will be held
on Thursday from the family residence on Broad street, at half-past two o'clock.
Mr. Morford had been identified with the Presbyterian church of Red Bank
since its organization. For several years he was president of the board of trustees,
and had recently been appointed chairman of the committee to rearrange the sittings
of the church and graduate the price of pews. He was a regular attendant at the
church services, and was liberal in his donations for church purposes.
He leaves a large property, and his fortune is estimated as being in the neighborhood
of one hundred thousand dollars.
