Samuel W. Jones
This aged resident of Holmdel died on Friday last in his 81st year. He was a
native of Burlington county, but for the past fifty years or morehe had lived at
Holmdel, where he owned and farmed the old J. H. VanMater farm at that
place. He was an upright, conscientious citizen, whose record was as good as his
bond, and whose many qualities had gained for him a large circle of
friends. His funeral was held yesterday at the Holmdel Reformed church, and
the many friends who assembled to pay the last respects to the dead made the
gathering one of the largest funerals ever held in that vicinity. The funeral
was conducted by the Revs. Mr. Hagerman and W. W. Case, of Holmdel, and
Elias Mead, of Keyport. Mr. Jones leaves a widow and nine children, seven sons and two
daughters.
Death notice in same issue lists his age as 80 years, 8 months and 15 days.
