Roscoe Conkling died last Wednesday at the Hoffman House in New York city. The direct cause of his death was an intense cold taken in a three hours effort to reach the Hoffman House on the day of the great March blizzard. This cold developed into inflamation and affected the brain. A surgical operation was performed over a week before his death, to relieve the brain of purulent matter, in the hope that nature might enable him to rally, but in spite of this he became weaker each day, and died from sheer exhaustion of the vital forces.
