Edna Bell Burnett, the adopted daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Fowler, died last Friday of brain fever. the baby was buried at Long Branch. The little one was the waif that was left at the house of Gordon Sickles, at Shrewsbury, on February 19th. The mother was afterward discovered to be Mrs. Jennie Francis Simpson, wife of Zachariah Simpson, of that place. She gave birth to the child in the November previous while employed as a seamstress at the house of William Townley, at Branchburg. Mrs. Simpson afterward went away to Baltimore and has not seen her child since she abandoned it to the mercy of strangers. Source: Red Bank Register Wednesday, August 3, 1887
