Obits - NJ - Monmouth - 1887 - Rev. James O. Rogers |
The Rev. James O. Rogers, well known in the upper part of this county, died at his home
in Hackensack on Monday of last week, aged 73 years. He was born three miles east of
Matawan, and when only about 16 years of age united with the Methodist church at Bethany.
While learning the trade of a blacksmith with the late Joel Carhart, in the shops at Granville,
he frequently exercised as an exhorter and was soon after licensed as a local preacher.
He was at one time pastor of the Matawan Methodist church.
