William Griffin Bess, age 71 died Friday morning at 1:40 a.m. at the home of his daughter Mrs. Mary Donald in Currituck Co. after an illness of 2 years, he was a native of Bertie Co but had been living in Currituck for the past 64 years, he was a retired farmer and a member of the Perkins Methodist Church of Shawboro, NC

He was the son of the late Victoria and John Bess, and the husband of the late Mary Whitehurst Bess.

He is survived by two daughters Mrs Grace McKell (McKeil) of Norfolk, Va and Mrs Mary Donald of Currituck, NC, six sons, Allen Bess and Lucian Bess of Currituck, Russell Bess also of Currituck, Joe Bess of Portsmouth, Va, Paul Bess of Greenville; NC, Winfred Bess of the United States Army stationed in Germany, one half-sister, Miss Malissa Basnight of Elizabeth City, NC Thirteen Grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. The body was removed to the Twiford Funeral Home pending completion of Funeral arrangements which will be announced later.
