California Obituaries - 1899 - Caspar WirtzDeath of Caspar Wirtz
Shortly before 12 o'clock to-day, Caspar Wirtz, aged 76 years, 7 months and 2 days, died at the home of M.
Popp at the Junction.
Deceased was a native of Switzerland but came to California while quite a young man. He
followed mining in El Dorado county for a number of years, but becoming too aged to work
with the pick and shovel went into farming. During recent year he has made his home with
Mr. and Mrs. Popp in Chico, and by them was given every care that his advanced age
made necessary.
He was never married, but leaves a niece at Davisville, one at Sacramento and a nephew
at Placerville. These relatives have been notified, and are expected to arrive in Chico
to-morrow evening. The funeral will take place Thursday afternoon. - Chico Enterprise.
Deceased will be better remembered by our older residents as the proprietor of the old
City Gardens property, near this city, where he resided for many years. The relatives referred to
in thearticle, are Mrs. W. B. Hammil, of Davisville, Mrs. C. Hunger, of Sacramento, and
Ferdinand Wirtz of this city.
