California Obituaries - 1899 - William SlemmerSan Joaquin County
William Slemmer, an inmate of the San Joaquin County Hospital, has just received notice that he has been
officially dead for thirty-five years and will have to be resurrected before he can hope to
secure a pension, for which he has made application. At the battle of Gettysburg Slemmer
was struck by a piece of shell and had his skull fractured. He was given charge of a colored
family who nursed him for days. According to the war record Slemmer was killed the second day of
the battle of Gettysburg. An effort is being made to straighten the matter out.
