A small group of volunteers transcribing the microfilm of the Regimental Descriptive Books for the 35th, 36th & 37th U.S. Colored Infantries and the 14th U.S. Colored Heavy Artillery, and the recently discovered 135th US Colored Infantry, formed in 1865 in NC. Also includes pages on Medal of Honor winners, regimental histories and other articles concerning these regiments. This data will be linked with genealogical information contributed by descendants of these soldiers.
At present the group has completed about 1/2 of the materials and are in great need of volunteers to assist in transcribing the data from the microfilm. Anyone who would like to volunteer, who has use of a microfilm reader, please let John B. McGowan know.
An excellent job so far with promises of more to come
The homepage of the 4th USCT - Organized at Baltimore, Md., July 15 to September 1, 1863.
This site is the work of the "only black Civil War reenacting group based in Northern California" and is an excellent source of information regarding Civil War soldiers of color in general and the 4th USCT in particular. There is no roster posted as of the date of this listing but perhaps we can pursuade them to post one.
