1 DIES, 1 FATALLY BURNED
Exploding Oil Pipe Kills Engineer;
Companion Expected to Die

Ignition of oil in a pipe they were repairing in the boiler room of the Gill Glass Co., Amber and Venango streets, yesterday caused the death of William McDowell, 221 East Thompson street, and probably fatally burned Christopher Dorman, Bristol pike and Cavanauugh lane, Torresdale. Dorman is in the Northeastern Hospital in a critical condition.

The men were engineers at the glass plant, and were the only men in the basement at the time. It is believed oil, dripping from the pipe, ran down the wall to a lighted gas jet. The flames leaped to the pipe, causing it to explode and cover the clothing of both engineers with blazing oil.

The building where the fire occurred is of concrete and was damaged only slightly.
