On Saturday last, Nov. 8th, Mr. Joseph Clark died very suddenly, on his farm near Mechanicsville, on the cross road leadin to the Matawan and Keyport turnpike. He was at work repairing a fence when he fell and expired almost immediately. He was a Christian gentleman, and had been for long years a member of the Methodist Church, being among those who held their connection with old "Bethany" meeting-house before it was removed to Mechanicsville. He was aged 77 years and 5 months.

The funeral was held in St. John's M.E. Church, Mechanicsville, on Tueday afternoon. The pastor, Rev. G. G. Sensor, conducted the service and preached from Genesis, XXV:8-"Then Abraham gave up the ghost and died in a good old age, an old man and full of years, and was gathered to his people. [sic] The remains were interred in Raritan cemetery, near Mechanicsville. The attendance at the funeral was very large.
