General Pershing Reports 30 Casualties; 7 Commissioned Officers on Day's List
Washington, May 29. - The War Department today gave out a list of
30 casualties in the American army abroad, and announced that one previously
reported missing, Private Louis Epstein of Brooklyn, had returned to his
company, reducing the grand total by one and making it now 6,428. In the
list there were the names of 5 killed in action, 5 died of wounds, 2 missing in
action, 7 severely wounded, 1 died of accident, and 10 died of disease.
Seven commissioned officers are included. Major John Frank Carmack
and Lieutenant Cholmondeley Thornton were wounded severely. Lieutenant
Francis A. McIlvaine was killed in action. Lieutenant Raymond W. Parker
is missing in action. Lieutenants Philip A. Hunter, Franklin Burche Pedrick,
and Louis M. Edens, previously reported missing, are now reported prisoners.
