We have scanned the original R. L. Polk and Co. "Detroit City and Wayne County Business Directory" for 1893-94 and indexed part of it for your convenience.   At this point, we have only the Detroit City alphabetical directory which consists of the name, occupation, and address of all individuals and firms engaged in business and professional pursuits in the city.   This directory is contained on pages 113 to 228 of the original publication.   To view these pages, click on the first letter of the last name of persons you are researching.  p This will take you to a page which lists links to pages with the names found on those pages.   Clicking on appropriate page numbers will take you to a scanned image of the original page.   From there, you can peruse the entire publication by entering the page number you would like to view.   These must be 3 digit numbers (eg. "003" as opposed to "3").

  Because this publication is somewhat cramped, the original pages are fairly large files, ranging up to 250 K, which may download slowly if you are using a telephone or on a slow connection.   We attempted to scan the publication into a morre user friendly size but the images were of a poor quality and not very legible.   For this reason, we decided to make them quite a bit larger than our normal files.   We hope this does not cause you any inconvenience.

The remainder of the publication should be in up and indexed within the next few weeks, as time permits.   The first section to be brought online will be the Wayne County alphabetical listing which is rather extensive.   This spans pages 233 to 305.   The classified business directory for Detroit runs from page 307 to 499.   As this section does not appear to provide additional information about individuals beyond that contained in the alphabetical listing, we will not be indexing this section by last name.

Finally, pages 003 to 110 contain a good deal of general information (pp. 010-086) and a slew of advertising.   You can access these pages below.
