Cedar Grove Methodist Church Graveyard, Toms River, Ocean County, NJ
Adjacent to Cedar Grove United Methodist Church (formerly Methodist Episcopal Church at Cedar Grove), incorporated Jan 10, 1853,
sits a small graveyard housing perhaps 300 or so burials. The graveyard is named Cedar Grove Cemetery (formerly known as Applegate
Cemetery). The church and graveyard sit at the juncture of Cedar Grove Road and Bay Ave.
in Toms River, Ocean County, New Jersey. A sign lists the opening of the graveyard as "circa 1800" but any grave markers from around that
date are no longer readable.
The church can be contacted as follows although we have no idea whether they are open
to assist with family history research:
Mailing address: 797 Bay Ave Toms River, NJ 08753-3590
Phone number 732-678-6446
We were not able to locate satifactory information concerning the church's history which is sad since it must be
of historic significance. There are a number of graves here marked as holding the remains of Revolutionary War veterans.
If you can help guide us to some historical information that has been documented, we would be happy
to include it with this section.
Our work here was to photograph as many legible or partially legible tombstones as possible. Because many were in very worn
condition, the total number of recorded graves is less than 200. Where we were able to glean partial information, we have included that
information and a photograph of the grave marker. Where we were unable to ascertain surname, those markers are listed below on this page.
Where we were able to see the surname but parts of the other information were illegible, we have included such information and a photograph
of the marker.
