Roseland Methodist Church Graveyard - Roseland, Essex County, NJ
The Roseland Methodist Church sits along Eagle Rock Ave near the center of town, not far from where the old
Borough Hall is located. The graveyard is located in the rear of the church's property and contains about
100 markers. The yard is well maintained but the gravestones are in need of preservation efforts.
Many of the monuments are not readable. In order to keep track of the photographs we have taken of the site,
we present these stones in the order in which we encountered each, rather than listing alphabetically the names
of persons for whom they were erected. If you recognize a marker for whom we have a photograph but no
transcription, please e-mail us at taxpod@yahoo.com with any information you have regarding this person.
Deciphering the inscriptions on the stones was aided by the use of a handwritten listing of burials for Roseland First Methodist
Protestant Church Cemetery dated 9/1/1941 and obtained at Rutgers Alexander Library. Names have been transcribed exactly as they appear on the
handwritten list unless the stone contained a different spelling that was clearly discernible.
Photos were taken of all found stones. Additional inscriptions for which no stone was located have been transcribed from the 1941 list.
By comparing the list to photos of the stones, it appears that names without dates on the list appear on the stones indicating a relationship
(spouse or child). We have assumed that indented names are the children of the names above them.
